Year End Report

The 2005 season has now come and gone and the HydroplaneQuebec.com Team finished the season on a positive note finishing third in Canadian Boating Federation High points Championship.

Even though it was a season long struggle with our engine program we were able to finish once again in the top three. With consecutive podium finishes in Gaspe (2nd)(North American Championship), Venise-en-Quebec (2nd) and Wildwood NJ (3rd) we were able to propel ourselves from 6th to 3rd place overall.

As I said before, this was definitely not our strongest year. The engine could have been a lot stronger but I am not one to dwell on the past, we will be back once again next year with a stronger campaign and I am certain that we will be back to our old 2004 form.

Also, I would like to congratulate all of the other competitors in the 2.5 Litre class especially Dan Kanfoush for his stellar year with the Fast Eddie #1 and Tom Diabo (Sonic Wave) CS-20 for second place finish in the high points battle. This was Tom’s first ride to a top three finish in High Points, keep up the good work.

Looking ahead towards the up coming 2006 season we have already started work on the hull and engine program. The engine is out and we have already started working on this. As for the boat, minor repairs are being dealt with, new wiring and some of the hardware will be upgraded for next season. The final step will be a new paint scheme in the spring before the start of the year.

As for myself, I want to thank all of the team members for all of their hard work, time and dedication and thank all of the sponsors for supporting the team in 2005.

See you in the first turn!

June 16, 2005
The test session at Lake Aloida Ontario went well.

I went out several times during the day (saturday june 11). Adjustments where made every time I came in, and the boat got better throughout the day. The motor which I had a question mark on ever since Lake Hopatcong responded well to everything I gave it.

The only trouble I was having was that the boat was still a little slow out of the turns. I now have a good idea what the problem was and I have since corrected it (carburetor). A new spacer had been made over the winter between the carb and the intake which changed the angle of the carb which upset the float level causing a shortage of fuel when exiting the turns. Now that the problem is corrected I should be testing this weekend or at the start of next week to verify the correction.

There were six teams there on Saturday. Mike Monahan CS 60, Dan Kanfoush S 1, Kent Henderson CS 00, Patrick Haworth CE 57, Ed Knight Can Am 333 and myself.

All I can say is what a great place to test. It was a beautiful day about 90, and we all had a great time. Thanks to Bert for a great day.

See you turn one

Hard Left Racing Lake Hopatcong race report

Hello race boat fans. Another season has started for the HARD LEFT II RACING TEAM.

This past weekend we enjoyed beautiful Lake Hopatcong N.J. As the scene of our first race.

Having only received the new engine last sunday, the team was extremely busy leading up to the weekend. Small jobs on the boat seemed to turn into one problem after another as we geared up for the weekend. Fortunatly by late Friday afternoon everything was in place and we headed 7 hours south for our fisrt event.

Arriving in New Jersey at 3:00 am Saturday morning, we had a couple of hours sleep before race day.  By 8:30 am registration, inspection and setting up in the pits where completed. All that needed to be done was my personal  inspection and firing the motor in order to make sure that everything was in line.

Unfortunately we did not have time to test  before the weekend and this would have to be done in our first qualifing heat.

Leaving the shore for the fisrt time was a great feeling, it had been a long winter and it felt great to get back into competition.

As for the race itself everything seemed fine and we finished with a strong forth place finish.

For myself, the boat was lacking a lot of exceleration coming out of the turns and top end down the straitaways. So we started dialing the boat back in and slowly returning to a setup that had been used last year. This was done in order to give us a idea of where we stood.

As for saturdays final, things seemed better in the warm up. Unfortunatly Hard Left racing does not have a water pump on the motor and was not able to park with the rest of the top guys with 3 minute remaining on the clock. So I had to settle for lane 6. (I had seen at the drivers meeting that there was a 20 mph rule in effect for the weekend. I guess it should have stated 1 mph as this was the speed used by the first five boats and nothing was called ).

Leading up to the first turn things got interesting. It seemed the entire field wanted lane one and coming down the straitaway lanes started to disapear. Myself and S-9 (Rewinder) had a close  encounter as both of our lanes seemed to turn into one. I decided at that moment to head through a roostertail in order to avoid him.

The final result was I got held up on the outside until lap three where I ducked inside moving into a 5th place finish.
At the end of our first day things semed to be going in the right direction and the work would continue the next day.

As for Saturday night we enjoyed a great meal put on by the race site and then some Nascar action brought to us by the Kennedy`s on there large screen.

Sunday started as any normal race day as we prepared the boat and got ready our qualifing heat.

Unfortunatly Hard Left Racing encountered it`s first and hopefuly last problem of the season, as the crane operator had a miscue and put the boat into the sand on the beach. Leading to a blocked water inlet line which caused the motor to over heat forcing me to shut it down. On the upside of this, I had kept an eye on the gauges saving the motor from being cooked.

All though this was not the way the weekend should have gone, we believe it can only get better.

So for now, we will get the boat ready for some testing this weekend in order to be ready for our next race in Ogdensburgh NY.

Keep checking in and we will keep all of you fans up to date with the team and it`s future developements.

See you in turn one....
